Wildland Helicopter Firefighting
Rapid response in initial attack is important in containing a wildfire to a small size and preventing large conflagrations. In the WARTHOG Wildland Helicopter Firefighting course the pilot will be taught the proper drop patterns depending on the type of fuel feeding the fire, wind speed/direction, terrain, etc.
The pilot will also be taught the different parts of a fire, i.e., head, flanks and heel, and how to fight the fire from each of those different parts.
Techniques will be taught for the type of equipment used, i.e., Bambi bucket or water tank and how to approach and pick up water from your water source whether it is a lake, river, reservoir or water tanker truck.
Pilots will receive a certificate upon completion of the course.
